From the recording Both Sides Of The River
LONG WAY TO GO
“Get off my lawn.”
WHAT IT’S ABOUT
In prepping the final list of songs for this record last fall, I looked at the list of 150 or so songs I haven’t recorded yet, but really really want to. Doing some quick math to factor in the additional song per week or so that I write these days, I thought, “Man, I have a long way to go.”
Two days later, I played this for Hooks At My House and several people reported that they cried. Score!

CREDITS
Ed Skibbe: acoustic guitar, piano, vocal
Spencer Pyne: bass
Brian McClure: drums
NOTES
We recorded basic tracks, bass, drums and reference guitar and vocal at ESP in Colorado. For months, while working on other songs, we batted around what this track needed. Lead guitar? Lap steel? Pedal steel? Violin? One night I played piano. That was it. Later, I retracted acoustic guitar and tracked the keeper lead vocal here at Coyote Tongue.

LONG WAY TO GO (Skibbe)

I have stood and delivered
I have climbed the hill
I have seen both sides of the river
I have dreams that haunt me still
In my days of youth and bravado
I wore rubies and diamonds in my rings
Thought I had all the gold in Colorado
Now I know that don’t mean a thing
I may be an old man
My beard as white as snow
But this is not my last stand
I still have a long way to go
There’s a light on the horizon
A glow in the dark
It’s time
It’s time
My heart has been broken
I have known love so true
I have heard such beauty spoken
Seen lies drawn in every hue
I may be an old man
My beard as white as snow
But this is not my last stand
I still have a long way to go
I still have a long way to go
I still have a long way to go
