From the recording Wood&Wires
Life can change on a dime. One moment you think you know where you're headed, thinking about how nice it will be when you get there after this difficult hourney. Next second, your upside down in the ditch. This song is about my experience with family estrangement. One moment you know pride, hope and love. One second later there is nothing but silence, shock, undeserved guilt, loss and pretty much all the stages of grief. But there can never be closure. It becomes a weight you carry forever.
This track begins with "The Fall," another interlude, setting the stage
Eddy Roswell: guitars, keyboards, orchestrations, vocals
Spencer Pyne: bass
David Sondrup: drums
Roddy Welles: lead guitar

GONE (Skibbe)

That old black dog, my loyal friend
Escaped from his dark corner again
Curled up warm around my heart
I scratch his ears like we were never apart
I sit outside and watch the planes all night
Pretending one of them’s your flight
And soon you’ll be pulling up the drive
For a moment I imagine I’m still alive
Life always has its tricks to play
Like that one where you just went away
Gone, Gone
So I stay right here in case you come home
I can’t go back and I can’t go on
You’re gone
Gone
There is a place so empty the world won’t turn
Time runs out and bridges burn
A place the light has never seen
Where you’re falling and falling in between
But then day will come, I will go inside
Moons will set, moons will rise
Clocks and calendars are useless things
When you know what every tick will bring
Life always has its tricks to play
Like that one where you just went away
Gone, Gone
So I stay right here in case you come home
I can’t go back and I can’t go on
You’re gone
Gone
You’re gone
Gone, Gone, Gone
I fix my tie and put on my hat
I left the key beneath the mat
